This week in Luxpresso – Fashion week at Milan and Paris, birthstones, jewels, shoes and Polaroid eyewear

From Rahul Misra’s ode to Van Gogh to Aquamarine birthstone for march borns to Jaipur Jewels to Anushka Sharma the face of Polaroid eyewear to Fizzy Goblet’s new collection to the new debut designers at Milan Fashion week we bring you the world in this post.

Rahul Misra with Van Gogh at Paris fashion Week
Rahul Misra has been spending time at the Centre Pompidou and it’s showing in his work. In a hat tip to the great Van Gogh, we see sunflowers everywhere in his Autumn/ Winter ’17 offering. Only Van Gogh can say ‘the sunflowers are mine’ and with this show Misra asks the question if they can be his too.
You even see Paul Cignac’s Pine Trees splayed out on a jacket. Misra’s collection is bridging the gap between art, craft and fashion. In a single collection Misra likens pointillism to embroidery, references the abstract movement with bold lines and colour blocking and brings together velvet and tartan. A black and white abstract version is also reminiscent of Van Gogh’s Starry Nights but that could also be too much reading in between the lines.
The jackets are long and oversized, the shoulders often bare and the pants are high-waisted. The colour paletter remains neutral save for the yellow/orange of the sunflower. It’s a collection that lets you wear your art on your sleeve.

Birthstone jewellery –Aquamarines for March borns
With the third month of the year in motion, it’s time we focus on the gemstone of the month: aquamarine. The gemstone for March babies, it derives its name from the Latin word ‘seawater’ and its colour ranges between sky blue and blue-green.
The stone symbolises honesty, beauty, and faithfulness and is believed to help the wearer stay calm and composed. That apart, this stone also boasts of healing properties; it is said to help cure liver, jaw, stomach, and throat ailments.

Jaipur Jewels comes to Delhi
On the sunny Wednesday afternoon of March 1, with women’s day around the corner, Amit and Sarika Naheta launched their new boutique store in Sunder Nagar, Delhi.
The jewellery collection has deep Indian roots all the way from Rajasthan seen in the traditional jadau and colourful pachelis. There are also Greek influences in the diamond collection called Myga.
Co-hosted by Mrs Ramola Bachhan, the event saw a coming together of the ladies who lunch from all over town

Anushka Sharma is the face of Polaroid Eyewear
Polaroid Eyewear, the pioneer of polarised lenses, has roped in actress Anushka Sharma as the brand ambassador for its 2017 campaign, releasing on Women’s Day. The eyewear brand wanted to associate with a person who has a strong perspective towards life and is modern. They found Sharma, a lively and strong-headed person, to be perfect for the brand.
The brand celebrates its 80th anniversary this year. It is known the world over for inventing polarised glasses, a special glass that eliminates glare.

Fizzy Goblet’s Indianised sneakers
Sneakers have been one of the biggest street style fashion trends so far. Sensing this popularity and taking the shoe style to the next level, Fizzy Goblet, the Indian footwear brand, has created a line of sneakers but with an Indian twist. The brand’s latest Summer Struck 2017 is a seven-pair capsule collection that offers one a combination of sneakers and juttis.
Fizzy Goblet takes the jutti and reinvents it. With this collection, it has birthed a jutti-sneaker hybrid that takes this traditional shoe and gives it a twist. The line is inspired by 1950s era, when women ditched stilletos for canvas shoes, and presents a fresh take on the classics. The footwear in this capsule are made using denims, special chalk cloth, metallic faux leather, and raw silk. These items are finished with a flat leather lining and rubber sole.
The interesting aspect of this shoe is the polka print and hand embroidery (think: bees, sheep and flowers).

The many Firsts at Milan Fashion Week 2017
The first timers at this fashion week go up against Milanese fashion royalty like Missoni Gucci and Prada. While they were definitely front and centre, sharing the limelight were debut designers who were either handpicked by the old guard or becoming too big to solely exist on social media.
