Walking through the gates of High Street Phoenix in Lower Parel it’s impossible to miss the tantalizing adverts of delicious food served at their newest eatery TYGR. Boasting of meals prepared by choicest ingredients flown in from Thailand, we couldn’t wait to get digging into some delicious Thai specials as we made our way to the restaurant that sits cosily on the first floor.
Pleased to be here
Stepping in, we are engulfed by the warm interiors that are aesthetically pleasing in every sense – décor, lighting and seating arrangements. You could seat yourself at the bar if you’re up for a relaxed drink or pick a comfy spot to enjoy your meal. The island bar is quite fancy and we’d make another trip only to be served our cocktails right there.
For starters
We began with the Scallop Carpaccio, a dish that was plated as finely as it tasted. The juicy scallops were well complemented by the litchi sorbet and this was indeed a delicious way to begin our meal.
The Sea Bass Ceviche is another must-try on their menu. The chunks of sea bass were dripping with sharp flavors that tease your taste buds with every bite. The Soft Shell Crab Salad was garnished with roasted, spicy coconut slivers which added a delightful crunch to the dish. The crab was cooked to perfection and complemented the veggies in the salad well.
The highlight of our meal was the Crispy Lotus Stem. With its balance of tangy and spicy flavor, this was a definite winner in our books. If you want to munch on something light with your drinks, this is a must-have.
If you’re in the mood for some dumplings, their Smelted Rice Flour Dumplings available in a vegetarian and chicken variant are simply melt-in-the-mouth.
On to the mains
For the main course, we gorged on some plain rice with a Red Lamb Curry and a Green Prawn Curry. All their curries (Massaman, Panang, and Yellow) are available in veg, prawn, chicken, lamb and duck options. We simply loved the Green Curry with juicy prawns. The flavors weren’t too overpowering and it sat just right on our palate. The Red Curry is a delicious option as well, with the lamb being tender and juicy.
Washing it down
The drinks menu at TYGR is a rather fun one to pick from, the names being inspired by Thai proverbs and lingo. We especially loved the Seven Times Good (Seven Times Bad), made with a base of gold rum and wheat beer. The delightful concoction was smooth and the flavors were balanced just right. Another cocktail to try while you’re here is The Way of the Duck.
Right from the ambiance to the hospitality and the appearance of our dishes to the delicious flavors, there’s so much to experience at TYGR. We hear that it’s advisable to book a table since the place is always buzzing during lunch and dinner. It’s been a while since we savored a flavourful Thai meal, and if you’re in the mood for some, you know where to head.
