Is Vikram Chandra’s star studded selfie really the “Best Indian selfie ever?”

Ellen DeGeneres may have unwittingly started quite the craze when she asked her followers to help her create a record for the most retweeted image on Twitter at the Oscars this year. And to make it worthwhile, she staged a wefie (for the internet slang newbies, that a selfie that features two or more people) that gathered some of the biggest movie stars in the industry including Jennifer Lawrence, Merryl Street, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Lupita Nyong’o, Jared Leto and Kevin Spacey among others. Having received upwards of 3 million retweets and 2 million favorites, this certainly became the tweet to talk about during Awards season and Ellen stumbled upon the wefie craze that’s sweeping the globe.

While the glorious group shot has already been parodied and replicated by numerous celebrities abroad, it seems like it’s now time for some our home grown heroes to take a bite of the wefie pie. A couple of days ago, NDTV hosted their Indian of the year awards where celebrated Indian author Vikam Chandra stole a moment to snap up an iconic wefie with some of the hottest talent in the India. Featuring Chandra himself alongside Aamir Khan, Kangana Ranaut, Soundarya Rajinikanth, NDTV’s Prannoy Roy, Nidhi Razdan and Deepika Padukone with Ranbir Kapoor taking the picture, the picture was captioned “Best Indian selfie ever! #NDTVIndian”

The tweet has earned close to 600 retweets so far, so Ellen needn’t fear anyone breaking her record anytime soon, but who knows Vikram may catch up yet! Responses to Vikram’s star studded selfie range from excited congratulations to unimpressed remarks about copying from Ellen but we gotta say, we’re loving the wefies people, so keep ‘em coming! What we are wondering though is how Ranbir and Deepika manage to look so casual in the picture, if we were taking selfies with the ex we’d be using the hashtag #Awkward!
