India is known to churn out the most number of movies every year. Imagine, 2000 films in more than 10 languages an accomplishment unrivaled anywhere else in the world. These mega projects require colossal budgets to help the movie see the light of day.
The Mahabharata, a multi lingual retelling of the Sanskrit epic is one such ambitious project and boasts of being the costliest Indian movie ever made.
UAE based billionaire B. R. Shetty is going to be pouring in $ 150 million in the production of this mega movie, which is reported to be five times the amount that was spent in making the movie Bahubali which has been India’s most expensive movie till date.
The Mahabharata is a gigantic project that will be shot in multiple Indian languages and later dubbed in leading foreign languages as well. They believe the film will reach out to almost 3 billion people which is practically half the world’s population.
With the intricacies of the plot and the length of the epic, they plan to produce the film in two parts and is scheduled to go on the floors by September 2018 for a 2020 release. The plan is to release the second part 90 days after the first.
This will be one mega production as we wait with bated breath .to see this magnum opus.
