Titan has unveiled country’s first-ever flying tourbillon to celebrate its 40th anniversary

In a watershed moment for Indian watchmaking, Titan Company Ltd. has unveiled the country’s first domestically manufactured Flying Tourbillon timepiece, marking its 40th anniversary in grand style. The prestigious launch, which comes as part of a four-piece Commemorative Collection, showcases Titan’s evolution from a mass-market watchmaker to a serious contender in the luxury horological space.

At the heart of this remarkable timepiece beats the 7TH1 Calibre, Titan’s first-ever Flying Tourbillon movement, developed entirely in-house at their manufacturing facilities. The movement, which operates at a frequency of 4 Hz and offers a 36-hour power reserve, features an ingenious design element – the tourbillon bridge is crafted in the shape of a ‘T’, paying homage to the brand while doubling as the watch’s small seconds hand.

The watch’s aesthetic appeal matches its technical prowess. Housed in a 44mm 18K rose gold case, the timepiece sports a striking dual-pattern dial. The peacock blue sub-dial features an intricate “flinqué” guilloché pattern, while the main dial surface showcases a refined “grain of rice” motif. The movement decoration demonstrates Titan’s mastery of traditional Swiss finishing techniques, incorporating Perlage, Côte de Genève, Spiral Satin, and Circular Satin finishes.

Priced at Rs. 26,00,000, this limited edition of just four pieces represents the pinnacle of Titan’s watchmaking capabilities. The watch comes packaged with a level of luxury befitting its status, including a metal plaque, leather travel pouch, loupe, and detailed documentation of its Indian origins.

Speaking at the launch, Ms. Suparna Mitra, CEO of Watches & Wearables at Titan Company Ltd., emphasized the significance of this achievement: “This magnificent watch, made in India, is a testament to our horological prowess and our manufacturing and design capabilities.”

The Flying Tourbillon heads a commemorative collection that includes three other watches: the Titan Classique (Rs. 24,995), the Titan Mechanical Gold (Rs. 5,50,000), and the Titan Moonphase (Rs. 41,995). This strategic move into the ultra-luxury segment comes as Titan’s premium watch category already contributes 15-18 percent to the company’s overall revenue.

For a brand that began its journey in 1984, this launch represents more than just a new product – it’s a bold statement about India’s growing capabilities in luxury watchmaking. The Flying Tourbillon stands as a proud testament to how far Indian horology has come, promising an exciting future for the country’s watchmaking industry.
