Mercedes-Benz has just launched the all new AMG G 63 in India with a starting price of Rs 2.19 crore (ex-showroom, India). It’s the latest generation of the iconic G Wagen that was unveiled earlier this year in January at the Detroit Motor Show in the USA. The high-performance AMG version will be the only offering from the new G-Class range which will be on sale in India. Introduced back in 1979, the G-Class is Mercedes’ longest-serving model and has gained itself the status of an off-road icon in the last forty years. What the German automaker has done is preserve the character of the original G Wagen over the years, while continuing to update the underpinnings, gadgetry and the amenities on offer. The new 2018 G-Class is no different. To the untrained eye, the new AMG G 63 might look similar to the outgoing model thanks to the same boxy design with straight, sharp lines. However, just about everything else is new.
Other than the slightly curvaceous bodylines added to the new G Wagen, the latest AMG G 63 features a new engine, body and chassis along with a long list of newly added technologically advanced features. Under the bonnet a 4-litre twin turbo engine that produces 577 bhp and 850 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to the brand new 9-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Despite its massive size, the AMG G 63 does 0-100 kmph in just 4.5 seconds. Top speed is electronically capped at 220kph – or 240kph with the AMG Driver‘s package.
