We join in on the 100th-anniversary celebrations of the Hilton Hotels as Imperial China introduces a delectable new menu
Gongs resound as Imperial China paves the way towards the 100th-anniversary celebrations at the Hilton Mumbai. The award-winning Chinese restaurant has introduced a delightful Sichuan-themed menu in lieu of the milestone. The menu, specially curated by Chef Thomas Lai, sous chef at Imperial China, packs spicy delicacies straight from the land of dragons and on to your plate. He tells us about the excitement behind the new menu and that he can’t wait for patrons to savour the spicy offerings they bring to the table.
Building an appetite
The ambient lighting and soothing music that wafts into the restaurant creates the perfect atmosphere for a meal at the Hilton Mumbai. We began with vegetable dumplings as an amuse bouche and were served a glass of Chenin Blanc as the appetizers were ordered.
Tossed in oyster basil sauce, the Lamb Dumplings were an instant hit. The bite-sized dumplings had perfectly balanced flavours and we’d definitely go back for another helping. If you’re in the mood for some seafood, the wok-fried Salt and Pepper Prawns are easy on the palate. The tiger prawns are wholesome; if you don’t plan on going large for the main course, the prawns are a good option for starters. The Shanghai rolls, a much lighter and flavourful variant of the spring roll, is a delicious option as well.
Moving onto mains
We ordered a portion of Phad Thai and Nasi Goreng along with a side of Braised Lamb Chops and Mandarin Duck. The tangy rice noodles were delicious on their own and didn’t really require a side of gravy. We heard a lot about the Nasi Goreng, and the Indonesian rice served with a fried egg and chicken satay was unmatched in its taste. The succulent lamb chops cooked in chilly bean sauce was a good addition to our main course. The duck was cooked perfectly and had soaked up the tantalizing soya and ginger it was prepared with. If you’re feeling experimental, we recommend you try the duck here.
Sweet as can be
The Fried Ice-cream served with seasonal cut fruits is tempting at best. We couldn’t resist ordering it and were very pleased as we scooped through the breaded coating to get to the ice-cream within. However, what we didn’t expect to wow us was the Banana Toffee. The balls of caramelized banana were like droppings from heaven’s kitchen served with delectable vanilla ice-cream; one of the best we’ve had.
What we especially liked about our visit was the service: prompt and efficient. Join in on the celebrations at the Hilton Mumbai as you head over to Imperial China and sojourn with the chef’s special preparations which take you on a culinary journey across the land of dragons and Sichuan.
