Review: Does Prodige Des Oceans Facial at the sprawling Sofitel SPA deliver a glow?

Having been a spa junkie and connoisseur all my life who has had some of the most exotic facials and treatments in the world-from Ananda in the Himalayas To Armani Spa, I’m a bit too difficult to please when it comes to my spa experiences. I’m always on the lookout to experience different products and therapies that widen my horizon when it comes to beauty and wellness.

Moreover, I had heard tons about Thalgo’s Prodige Des Oceans Facial and I thought to myself- is a luxurious facial that has the goodness of the ocean-a sure shot way to get, set glowing? To put it to test, one Sunday evening, I found myself booking an appointment at the swish Sofitel SPA in Mumbai.

With a variety of energising treatments, I had heard that the new Sofitel SPA menu includes treatments that awaken your senses and re-energize your skin by giving it a lustrous look. It has added rejuvenating spa treatments like Sensory Harmony Massage that involves duet therapists working in harmony to knead the muscles into mush, Coffee Polish Body Treatment  which features a coffee and sugar mix that results in exfoliation of dead skin cells that keeps the skin smooth and firm and helps in premature skin ageing.

The gorgeous spa entrance

As I enter the serene but opulent interiors of the spa, I’m greeted by gorgeous golden bulbs hanging down in perfect symmetry from the ceiling. I’m offered a signature spa welcome drink and from there on all my stresses are drowned out. I then step in my Spa Suite that combines contemporary elegance and exquisite design which crafts a symphony of style with touches of French Provence and this sets the stage for an unforgettable moment of Beauty and Wellbeing.

My therapist Divya starts off the treatment with a foot ritual which I have to tell you is one of the most extensive foot soaks I’ve had lately. It throws in a good amount of exfoliation with the salts and moisturising unlike a quick, done-for-the-sake-of-it foot ritual. Divya begins the Prodige Des Oceans Facial with a deep cleanse and an exfoliation that I adored, using a cream with carefully created spherical plant-based microbeads that gently remove dead and dull skin, before applying a rich and creamy mask to hydrate, energise and oxygenate. While this does its job, she undertakes a thorough and incredible hand, arm and décolleté massage, before progressing into a facial massage. Each stage is so clearly defined and deeply enjoyable that it’s possible to drift off into a trance state.

The next 90 minutes encompass the application of the fabulous creams and serums taken to high art through a skilled massage technique and closing with a pressure point scalp massage that ends all too quickly. In a matter of just a few minutes, my skin glows, my facial contours appear redefined and more firmly sculpted and tiny fine lines around my eyes and between my brows have disappeared. At its heart, the Prodige des Océans Mask, provides pure plumping oxygenation, and its specific massage inspired by Kobido, an age-old Japanese manual facelift technique, visibly smooth wrinkles and restore the skin’s firmness and elasticity.

Reception area

After this unforgettable spa sojourn, I settle with a cup of coffee by the gorgeous L’Oh Pool with its deep blue colour reminiscent of French canals. I feel completely reborn and spoilt to the core. The spa manages to offer the perfect alchemy between efficacy and sensory pleasure. Overall, it provides the revitalising benefits of Intelligence Marine Régénérative, a complete concentrate of 63 marine active ingredients.  I can safely say that this supreme Beauty Ritual at this rockstar of a spa provides ultimate regeneration for overall youthfulness. And to my delight, I’m glowing inside out for weeks that follow….
