French origin brand of luxury champagnes Moët-Hennessy is all set to begin production of locally grown sparkling wine in India. Moët-Hennessy will introduce home grown sparkling wine to the Indian wine market next month with a range of new Non Vintage sparkling wines produced in the Nashik region.
Moët & Chandon has been making wine outside of Champagne since the 1950s, when it created Chandon Argentina and subsequently founded a sparkling brand in California in 1973. And, now with Chandon Nasik, India will be available across traditional and modern wine retail shops and will be listed across hotels, restaurants, lounges and night-clubs. Nineteen hectares of Pinot Noir, Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay were planted in 2011, in the Dindori sub-region of Nashik, Cathryn Boudiak. The winery – which is expected to be completed in 2014 – will have a capacity of producing 50,000 cases a year There is a vast population of young, sophisticated Indians who aspire to consume world class products. Chandon India will give them a drink they can call their own.
The aim of Moët-Hennessy is to produce wine for young Indians, who look for international quality and cosmopolitan branding. NV Champagne typically sells for an average Rs. 6000.
