Nestled in one of the undeniably uptown buildings of Mumbai’s popular Kala Ghoda area, La Folie has set a high standard for itself by calling itself Mumbai’s newest “haute patisserie” and judging by the looks of their fashion-meets-food Choux Festival, the title seems to be well earned.
While most of Mumbai salivates after cupcakes and lusts for macarons, La Folie is staying ahead of the curve by cashing in on the French classic choux pastry and translating the plain jane pastry into special éclairs, profiterole choux buns and mini St Honore desserts with a couture twist! The desserts on offer will incorporate two of Spring/Summer 2014’s hottest trends: pastels and metallic in every bite, making each offering a treat for the eyes as well as the tastebuds.
The festival begins today the 27th of May and concludes on the 1st of June and will feature old and new flavours such as damask rose, sea salt caramel, lemon curd and strawberry, red velvet, black sesame, praline nutella, dark chocolate truffle cream, pistachio cream with raspberry, blueberry and cream cheese, tiramisu with pecan and more.
Executive chef Sanjana Patel beautifully explained the concept of the festival, “The concept of marrying trends in haute couture and patisserie, which is something unexpected, is what La Folie stands for. For us, dessert is not just supposed to be enjoyed by the taste buds. It is to be enjoyed by all senses.” It’s certainly true, you eat with your eyes!
Profiterole buns at the festival will retail for Rs. 90 apiece, each éclair will cost Rs. 120 while mini St Honore desserts will set you back by Rs. 180 each.
