The new Cave Privée by Veuve Clicquot, a one-of-its-kind rare tasting of a bottle was introduced on June 18th, 2014 on Silverskär Island in Äland, Finland, Dominique Demarville, Cellar Master of Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin. On this occasion, the champagne house also took the opportunity of launching the first ever ‘Veuve Clicquot Cellar in the Sea experiment’. A 40 year venture to further enhance the House’s understanding of the aging process, this experiment involved the submersion of a selection of Veuve Clicquot wines in the Baltic Sea, within a specifically designed underwater cellar.

The 1990 vintage has spent 17 years ageing on its lees and a further 2 years in bottle. This has resulted in a wonderfully complex Champagne, full of brioche notes and candied orange peel. A Champagne for a truly special occasion.
