Caravan Hands: South Mumbai’s new Art Gallery

Mumbai has a new destination to celebrate art. Caravan Hands, a designer store cum art gallery is now open to promote Indian artists and craftsmen.Drawn from the court rooms and out of pure passion, Naziya Merchant a solicitor by training, opened up the kitschy place to incorporate traditional Indian dying art forms and to also hold contemporary art and sculpture shows, poetry recitals in varied Indian languages.

One of the newest spaces on the block, Caravan Hands evoke a rustic and vintage feel with brick walls illuminated by offbeat lighting. Creating a sense of invention coupled with a desire to offer more than what is already on display; the store house art, and kitschy home decor. Drawing from this old world charm, Caravan Hands provides a canvas to Indian illustrators’ and designers’ to showcase home items of everyday use; coasters, cutlery, cushions, lamps with each piece being remarkably personal and distinctive

A new addition to the arty Mumbai scene, this extraordinary designer store cum art gallery lies in the midst of all the clamor of the main street of Cumballa Hill at Kemps Corner in South Mumbai. Caravan Hands will have its first show of paintings and poetry together by artist-poet Naima in August 2014. Along with an exhibition of her paintings; the artist shall be keeping a transliteration of her poetry with English translations.
