I remember Burberry’s DK88 bag stealing my attention on the runaway this February in London. The signature creation by the British brand pays tribute to the very heart of the Burberry story. It’s fittingly named after the house code for the brand’s signature honey-coloured gabardine fabric.
Conceptualised in England and handcrafted in Italy, the bag undoubtedly reminds me of the brand’s new Trench Leather given how it’s designed from it. The DK88 Top Handle sits at the heart of the collection, and is defined by its timeless silhouette, oversize lock and sculptured handle. What I especially loved was how the new Trench Leather is embossed with a unique pattern reflecting the distinctive twill finish of cotton gabardine, the cloth Thomas Burberry patented in 1888, and which is still used today to make Burberry’s signature made-in-England trench coats.
Notable names from the industry including Serena Williams, Ellie Goulding, Matt Smith, Jourdan Dunn, Ruby Rose, Christine and the Queens, Olivia Palermo graced the launch of The DK88 bag collection at the brand’s Spring Street, New York store. If you happen to be in the Big Apple, the Burberry store is worth visiting! Remodelled bursts of colour, intriguing installations and ravishing displays reflect the new bag’s painterly colour palette at the store.
