A guide to 5 of Mumbai’s best patisseries

If you have a sweet tooth like the most of us, you would be ecstatic to know that Mumbai has experienced an upward trend in patisseries in recent times. While Mumbai has always been home to numerous great bakeries, patisseries are now poised to join the long-standing ranks.

Not only are more patisseries serving better brownies and cakes, but ambitious upstarts like Le 15 and Sugar Rush have injected some much needed excitement into a pastry category that earlier felt staid and dull.

Just for you, we have curated a list on the city’s best patisseries – primarily based on their speciality! Whether you’re looking for lip-smacking cupcakes or a rendition of Laduree’s macaroons, here are the 5 best patisseries in the city.
Sugar Rush Patisserie
#5 Sugar Rush
Where:
Union Park, Khar
Speciality: What’s amazing is that their pastries and cupcakes are devoid of artificial flavours and seasoning. Their fruit cupcakes are delicious with Rushda Azmi Shaikh (the owner) using fruit puree to create her cranberry and blueberry cupcakes! For those pastry lovers, the Hazelnut crunch, a round little pastry, is fresh, soft and melts as you bite into it.
Love N Cheesecake Patisserie
#4 Love N Cheesecake
Where:
Outlets at Andheri (W) & Powai
Speciality: The soft-centred layered strawberry cheesecake is simply to die for! The freshness of the strawberry when blended with the crunchiness of the biscuit layer is divine! Using fresh mascarpone and Philadelphia cheese, we highly recommend this dessert if you visit!
Country of Origin Patisserie
#3 Country of Origin
Where:
Outlets at Napeansea Road, Bandra (W) & Juhu
Specialty: While almost everything is divine at this patisserie, we can certainly vouch for their jars! Think oodles of red velvet and chocolate fondant in a jar ready to indulge into. Besides those signature flavours, they also have creations that entail hazelnut and cookies! The layers of cake inside are so moist that it melts in your mouth. Frankly, we call it the perfect dessert.
La Folie Patisserie
#2 La Folie
Where: Kala Ghoda
Speciality: It’s not only the taste but the presentation that has us mesmerised! Chef Sanjana Patel’s creations are like little pieces of art. Our personal favourites were the Damask & the Infinite Caramel. The beautifully composed damask had a pink rose-hued shell that cracked open like a boiled egg to reveal rose-flavoured Bavarian mousse concealing a filling of lychee and raspberry compote. It was perhaps Patel’s sweetest creation, while the Infinite Caramel had a nougat-like caramelised hazelnut base holding up the sea salt-infused silken crème caramel.
LE 15 PATISSERIE
#1 Le 15
Where: Palladium Mall, Phoenix Mills
Specialty: When one thinks of Le 15, only one word comes to mind! Think macaroons, macaroons and more macaroons! Pooja Dhingra’s light, sweet culinary creations simply melt in your melt. The best-selling ochre passion fruit macaroon has the peculiar sourness of passion fruit and is an acquired taste. Dessert fiends might appreciate the cream-coloured hazel nut macaroon and the bubblegum-pink bitter chocolate one, both with rich chocolate centres.
